Stronger bones for osteoporosis
Strength training class for prevention of osteoporosis
Are you looking to improve your bone density, muscle strength, and overall performance? Have you heard that weightbearing exercises for osteoporosis are beneficial but don’t know where to start? At Bodyfit Physio, we are excited to introduce a new class inspired by the ground-breaking LIFTMOR (Lifting Intervention for Training Muscle and Osteoporosis Rehabilitation) trial. This program uses high-intensity resistance and impact training to combat osteoporosis and enhance physical health. Progressive resistance strength training is the most promising intervention to maintain or increase bone mass and density. This class is for anyone looking to tackle the future and prevent decreasing bone mass.
What is the LIFTMOR Trial?
The LIFTMOR trial was a study that explored the effects of high-intensity resistance and impact training on bone density and muscle strength in postmenopausal women. Osteoporosis, osteopaenia and muscle weakness are common concerns for many women as they age, increasing the risk of fractures and decreasing the quality of life. The LIFTMOR trial aimed to address these issues through a targeted exercise regimen.
They found significant changes including:
- Regaining lost height
- Increased femoral neck bone mineral density
- Increased lumbar spine bone mineral density
- Increased functional performance
- and most importantly NO INJURIES
Best exercises for osteoporosis and osteopaenia:
- Full-body exercises to promote muscle growth and stability
- Jumping element to stimulate bone-loading impact
- Tailored exercises for you and your goals aligned with the LIFTMOR principals.
The intensity factor:
- Exercise intensity is important to ensure there is enough challenge to improve your bone density and muscle strength according to the LIFTMOR principles
- At Bodyfit Physio we will tailor the intensity for you, so that you feel comfortable to get started. You will get stronger much quicker than you expect!
